Sport Commissioners (Taken from the South Central Zone Policy Handbook)

A. The conditions of appointment of Sports Commissioners shall be as follows:

  1. Appointments to the roster of sport commissioners shall be ratified by the general membership.

  2. They shall be appointed from among the school staff members of S.C.Z. member schools.

  3. Commissioners shall serve for a period of a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years.

  4. A vacancy occurring during a term of office shall be filled by an interim appointment by the Executive Committee, such appointment to be ratified by the general membership at their next meeting.

B. The duties and responsibilities of Commissioners shall include the following:

1. Co-ordination of the Zone Competition.

  • I) Assure all areas of the zone are to be represented at the competition at least three weeks prior to the event.

  • II) Prepare the initial draw, where applicable, for the zone competition and present it at the fall meeting for ratification.

  • III) Recommend provincially certified neutral officials for zone competition where feasible.

  • IV) Obtain appropriate award for the zone competition and forward them to the tournament host.

  • V) Ensure the tournament co-coordinator forwards a financial statement to the S.C.Z. Vice-president within three weeks of the completion of the event.

  • VI) Submit a brief report on the tournament to the tournament host with a copy to the Vice-president.

  • VII) Obtain a team sport commitment from each school, signed by the principal, three weeks prior to the competition.

2. Co-ordinate a coach's meeting once a year.

3. Review all policies regarding the sport and make recommendations for change to the general meeting.

4. Attend zone championships and provincial or regional competitions if possible.

5. Be familiar with new developments in rules, equipment, coaching techniques etc.

6. Distributing information such as noted in (8).

7. Presenting recommendations to zone tournament chairmen, the S.C.Z. executive and member schools.

8. Acting as a consultant to meetings and committees conducted by people in the sport.

9. Motivating the furthering of their sports through the use of newsletters, talks and other forms of publicity and promotions.

10. Effecting liaison with provincial sports governing bodies, the S.C.Z. Executive Committee and the A.S.A.A. sports commissioner.

11. Making sure that the records are recorded and yearly reports are written and forwarded to the next commissioner.

12. Whenever possible the commissioner will submit dates for the next years competition and interested hosts.
